MAC Presidents' Award

An announcement from the Midwest Archives Conference:

Nominations sought for the MAC Presidents' Award

The MAC Presidents' Award (http://www.midwestarchives.org/presidentsaward.asp) was established in 1986 as a way to recognize significant contributions to the archival profession by individuals, institutions, and/or organizations not directly involved in archival work, but who are knowledgeable about its purpose and intrinsic value. The success of archival work often depends on these supporters making outstanding contributions to the archival profession through such areas as legislation, publicity, advocacy, and/or long-term fiscal support.

Previous winners of the award with Minnesota ties have included :

2002: Prof. Clarke Chambers, Social Welfare History Archives
1997: 3M Corporation
1992: Minnesota State Senator Allan H. Spear and Representative Steve Trimble
1989: Minnesota Future Resources Commission

If you are familiar with an individual, group or corporation who you feel is deserving of this award, please consider nominating them.

The nomination form can be found in the October 2008 MAC Newsletter or can be obtained by contacting Ann Kenne, the Minnesota state committee chair, at (651) 962 - 5461 or via email at: amkenne1@stthomas.edu.

MAC Call for Proposals

The Midwest Archives Conference is now inviting proposals for presentations, sessions, round table discussions, workshops, and papers for its Annual Meeting to be held April 17-19, 2008 in Louisville, KY.

The Program Committee is interested in proposals on all aspects of archives and archival work but is also seeking proposals that particularly focus on the theme of "Racing toward the Future (while distilling the past)." MAC believes that, like Kentucky's famous winning racehorses, archivists must not remain in the pack reacting to developments, but instead to take a lead from the post in order to save the treasures of society.

The program committee encourages creative and timely presentations that will engage archivists and records managers from all types of organizations. Proposals from professionals in allied fields and from graduate students are welcome.

To submit a session proposal, please download the below form, complete it at your leisure and then send via email, traditional mail, or fax to one of the co-chairs listed.

Completed proposals are due August 15, 2007.
